There is nothing wrong with you. The world needs your gifts. Welcome home.
Have you noticed what we’re losing?
The ability to sit still with something difficult.
To follow a complex thought to its conclusion.
To honour another person's experience so completely that we come out the other side changed.
To reflect honestly on our own story and have the courage to rewrite it.
Stories taught us what courage and empathy looked like before we had words for them. They modelled good character.
Good writing has always shown us how to make sense of our lives.
It’s not simply "reading and writing" - we're talking about the capacity to be fully human…and we are abandoning it in our children and in ourselves.
This matters and you can feel it slipping away.
I was an English teacher for 22 years. I watched students learn to read between the lines of a novel so that they could read between the lines of their own and other lives.
I watched writing heal and reveal things that nothing else could reach.
Then I reflected on my own story. Things changed.
Now I prioritise writing, conversations and reading between the lines.
The examined life, honestly written and courageously lived, is the most important thing a person can choose.
The revolution isn't loud. It starts in ink.
It starts when we stop pretending.
It starts with me and it starts with you.
My Story
Stories have been my constant. The characters I have met between ink and imagination taught me courage, kindness, empathy and hope when I couldn't find what I needed in the real world.
My father died just after my third birthday and nobody spoke of him afterwards. They thought silence would cause less pain. It caused them less pain and me more, and a hugely important part of my jigsaw has always been missing. Stories have helped me to fill it.
School was a paradox - a place where I performed well and was deeply unhappy, bullied and unable to find my people, slowly abandoning myself and my dreams. Home life was complicated in ways that stayed behind closed doors. Books were where I went when nowhere else felt safe.
At twenty-one I married the best man I have ever known, one week after finishing my degree, and we have grown through life together ever since. Raising our two sons will always be my greatest achievement - it is watching your heart wander around outside your body, and it asks everything of you. Above all, we have raised them to love books, stories and conversations.
I taught English for twenty-two years, climbed every rung of the ladder, and discovered at the top that it was leaning against the wrong wall. Coming back down took more courage than climbing ever had - leaving the success, the security and the expectations of others to start again.
But finding the courage to be fully, unapologetically yourself is the most necessary decision you will ever make. I speak as someone who knows. I am rewriting my story in my second half of life.
I cannot believe I am likely well over halfway through this journey. It has passed in the blink of an eye. My babies, born yesterday, are grown and I don't know when that happened.
Time is the most precious thing we have. None of us know how much remains.
Your story is not yet finished. Make the yet-to-be-written parts the most remarkable.
We are all stories in the end.
What This Work Looks Like
This is not therapy. It is not me telling you what to do.
It is the sort of space that is genuinely rare in modern life. You can slow down, think honestly, and begin to see clearly what you have been struggling to see, sense and say.
We surface the story you have been telling yourself - about who you are, what you are capable of, what you deserve. We look at it without judgement and without flinching.
We witness it whole - stepping outside it to see what it has been protecting, what it has cost, where it came from, how it no longer serves.
You write a new story - not prescribed by me, but discovered by you. Truth is already present in you. It is waiting to be seen, heard and held.
You embody it - translating insight into practical, grounded action. Not someday. Now.
You stop pretending and start living the life that is truly yours.
Testimonials
“You just seem able to see straight away what others can’t see at all.
I’m always amazed by how carefully you listen. I know this because you always remember everything I say from session to session, month to month.
I feel completely heard.”
“I can’t quite imagine how differently things might have turned out without meeting you.
Sometimes it’s easier not to look at the hard stuff but that doesn’t make it right. Some of it was hard but so right.”
“Life is so busy.
I never believed that just having space to think with someone I trust would make such an enormous difference.
Trust is rare. It feels safe to be me and say what I think.
To anyone who is sceptical, I would say try it and see!”
